The name Dhanurasana is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Dhanu’ meaning Archers Bow . Dhanurasana is so called because the practitioner in this posture resembles an archer's bow .
Lie on your stomach. Exhale, bend your knees and bring your heels close to your buttocks. Reach back and hold the ankles with your hands. Inhale and raise the thighs, head and chest off the ground as high as possible. Look up and breathe normally. Remain in this position for a few seconds. To come out of the position, gently bring your legs and chest to the floor and release the ankles. Relax.
Dhanurasana keeps you active and energetic. Regular practise helps strengthen the back and abdominal muscles. It keeps the digestive and reproductive systems healthy. The asana also helps people with renal (kidney) disorders and diabetes.
